Cusco: Land of the Incas

The city of Cusco, ancient capital of the Inca Empire, was declared Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 1983, and is without a doubt one of the most important tourist destinations in our country. Along its cobblestone streets, you can find buildings made by the Incas such as the Koricancha and the Palace of Inca Roca, as well as colonial buildings with an Andean baroque style such as the Cathedral and the Church of “La Compañia de Jesus”; besides, you can visit the picturesque neighborhood of San Blas where the workshops of the region’s best artisans are found. This magical city also has an exciting nightlife with cafes and restaurants for everybody.

Ten minutes outside the city you’ll find the giant walls of the Sacsayhuaman Fortress. And beyond Sacsayhuaman you’ll find the following archaeological sites: Qenko, Pukapukara and Tambomachay, Inca constructions built entirely of stone.

Along the Sacred Valley of the Incas, one hour from Cusco, you can find the towns of Pisac, Maras, Chinchero and Ollantaytambo, from where you can take the train to Machu Picchu.
The Citadel of Machu Picchu, which has recently been named one of the Seven Wonders of the World, is the most important and beautiful legacy of the ancient Peruvians. It is also part of the Historic Sanctuary with the same name and is one of the few places in the American continent declared Cultural and Natural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.
