USIL and UNSAAC seek to break a new World Guinness Record in Cusco: Prepare the world's largest causa

To promote the consumption and nutritional value of native potatoes, 800 kg of potatoes will be used to prepare a causa of 5 meters long and 1.5 meters wide.

(Cusco) The San Ignacio de Loyola and San Antonio Abad del Cusco universities announced at a press conference that they have their equipment and logistics ready to take on the attempt to establish a new Guinness Record in this city.

To achieve this challenge, there is also the support of the rural community of Occopata, from the district of Santiago, which will provide the main ingredient in the preparation of the causa: the Ccompis potato.

The founder and president of the San Ignacio de Loyola Corporation, Raul Diez Canseco Terry, said that the event seeks to promote the consumption of the third most important food of humanity. "Peru is the center of the origin of this tuber and our brothers of the communities are the ones who cultivate and preserve more than 3,780 potato varieties that exist in our country, protecting humanity and contributing to food security," he claimed.

The president of the University San Antonio Abad of Cusco, Baltazar Nicolás Cáceres Huambo, said that the university will provide a modern dining room they have that daily serves almost 5,000 students. This according to add the institutional support to the official attempt.

"This is an act that makes us proud as cusqueños, by putting in the eye of the world one of the agricultural products that our ancestors have contributed to the earth, as is the potato", he added. The event will take place on May 27, in the auditorium of the UNSAAC, located in the Plaza de Armas of Cusco.

The president of the USIL, Dr. Ramiro Salas Bravo, born in Cusco, also participated in the press conference. He highlighted the research work carried out by the universities and how knowledge contributes to the development of the country.
